Top Ten New-to-Science Species for 2008
From a press release by the International Institute for Species Exploration at Arizona State University (美國亞利桑那州立大學國際物種勘測協會)– May 2009.
Each year the International Institute for Species Exploration assembles a diverse committee of taxonomists who review thousands of new species that were first described during the previous calendar year. They pick the top most interesting species to share with the public as part of their State of Observed Species Report. The photos below illustrate the “Top Ten New Species for 2008”.

什麼是博物館?
博物館(museum)一詞，最早源於希臘字Museion，在當時指的是禮拜謬司神，並提供音樂、詩歌、戲劇、舞蹈、文學、自然等藝術、科學及哲學思辯的綜合性場域，人們在此尋求心靈沉澱及啟發，含有祭祀、休閒社交及學習等多重功能。然而，現今博物館的概念，直至200多年前的西方世界才漸趨完整，不同國家不同時其針對其各自的發展狀況，對博物館的定義也有所不同。國際博物館協會(ICOM)對「博物館」一詞所下的定義最常被引用：「博物館是一個非營利的永久性機構，以服務社會、促進社會發展為宗旨，並開放給大眾；為了教育、研究、娛樂之目的致力於蒐集、保存、研究、傳播與展示人類及其環境的有形及無形遺產。」包括非營利性藝廊、植物園、動物園、水族館、天文科學館等，皆可視為「廣義的博物館」。
518國際博物館日
「國際博物館日」(International Museum Day)是1977年國際博物館協會(ICOM)為了鼓勵民眾認識博物館，同時提醒博物館正視不同社會挑戰所發起的國際性活動，訂定每年5月18日為「國際博物館日」(International Museum Day)，並宣佈「博物館是促進文化交流、豐富文化內涵、增進人類的相互了解與合作，以達成世界和平的重要管道」之精神標語，期望全世界的博物館人能在國際博物館日當天或其前後的日子，依據特定的主題，藉由不同的方式和活動，增進民眾對博物館角色的了解。
